How to get here?
Driving down Surrenden Road go past Varndean College on your left and then take the next left into Draxmont way. Keep straight on now at all times, you will go past some houses, past Dorothy stringer school, and past the playgroup, then lastly past a couple more houses and outbuildings after them turn immediately right and then sharp right again. You should now see the car park in front of you and as you made the last turn the pool was the building in front of you then. The male changing rooms are the first door you come to along the path the female changing rooms are the last door.
You can also enter postcode BN1 6PW into Google Maps for directions.
What is the pool like?
Surrenden pool is 25m x 10m, with a depth starting at 1m - 2.8m. It is perfect for beginners all the way up to advanced levels and with indoor heating and seats for spectators, it is an ideal learning pool.
What class is right for me?
You can find definitions of our classes on our Adult Swimming and Child Swimming pages. We will also assess you at your first session and as the term progresses to make sure you get the most out of your lessons.
When are the classes?
You can find class details on our Class Timetable and Course Dates pages.
What is the class size to teacher ratio?
All classes have a maximum of 8 per class and one trained teacher. However, lower level Starfish and Seahorse classes have a maximum of 6 children per class, which if full will also have an assistant teacher for support.
Do I need to get in the water?
Unless you are the swimmer or you are booked into a parent and child class you do not need to get in the water. If your child is new or nervous then you can pack your swimwear just in case, but we have trained teachers and extra assistants to put them at ease. With all other swimmers, we politely ask that you enjoy their swimming lesson from the spectator area to minimise disruption.
I have never swam before, what should I expect?
We understand that swimming can be a nerve-wrecking experience for anyone so we do our utmost to make it is enjoyable as possible. We have plenty of experience with beginners and upset children, so do not worry, they will be smiling in no time!
Parent & Child Lessons - You will be in the shallow end and use our buoyancy aids to support your children. This way you can enjoy your lesson together through play with our teacher.
Child Lessons - We will assess their ability straight away and make sure they have buoyancy aids to support them. The lessons will work on water confidence and teaching the basics through play in a safe manner.
Adult Lessons - We will tailor the lesson to your needs and make sure you are at ease. We will breakdown everything for you to make it easy and enjoyable.
